OUR Community

The history of people from Bihar and Jharkhand in Australia dates back several decades, with the first Indian migrants arriving in the country in the 1960s. However, the population of people from Bihar and Jharkhand in Australia has grown significantly in recent years, as part of a broader trend of Indian migration to Australia.

Indian migration to Australia has been driven by a range of factors, including economic opportunities, education, and family reunification. Many people from Bihar and Jharkhand have come to Australia as students, particularly in fields such as information technology and engineering. Others have come as skilled workers, particularly in sectors like healthcare and education.

While people from Bihar and Jharkhand are a relatively small proportion of the Indian community in Australia, they have made important contributions to Australian society. Many have become successful business owners and entrepreneurs, particularly in the hospitality sector. Others have been involved in community organisations, promoting Indian culture and providing support to other members of the community.

Despite these contributions, people from Bihar and Jharkhand, like all immigrants, have faced their share of challenges in Australia, including discrimination and social isolation. However, the community has also been able to draw on its rich cultural heritage to build strong networks and support systems, helping to make a positive contribution to Australian society.

BJSM acknowledges the Traditional Owners of the land on which we meet and work and pay our respect to Elders past, present and future.
